Family History

He was the son of William a sewing machine worker and later insurance agent who died on 27th November 1918 aged 48 years of age and Frances Ann Hayes (née Green). He was the brother of Joseph, Elsie and William Hayes. In 1901 census the family lived at Outram Street Sutton in Ashfield. By 1911 they had moved to 346 Highbury Road Bulwell Nottingham.

Military History

He enlisted at Coalville. His body was never recovered or identified and his name is commemorated on the Arras memorial Pas de Calais. Research by Peter Gillings
