Military History

General Bowman probably enlisted in late 1906 when he was18 years old. He was posted to India and the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters. He did not go to France with the battalion on 4 November 1914 but joined them on 17 December. It is likely he was actually one of the 65 officers and men who arrived on 3rd January 1915. Torrential rain made the communications trenches impassable. Ration parties had to move over ground exposing them to fire fromthe enemy 120 yards away.On 27 January, General was killed and he has no known grave. He is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial France. John Morse
