Family History

Harold Hodges was born in 1895 he was the son of the late Morrison a needle maker and Alice Jane Hodges née Bailey of 7 Ridgeway Street Blue Bell Hill St Ann's Nottingham. Morrison was born in 1863 at Basford, he died in 1899 aged 36 yrs, Alice Jane Bailey was born in 1866 at Nottingham they were married in 1883 at Nottingham and went on to have 4children, Ethel born 1888, Herbert b1890, Francis Arthur b 1892. In 1911 his widowed mother Alice Jane is 45 yrs and is living at 7 Ridgeway Street, Blue Bell Hill Road, St Ann's, Nottingham. she is living with her children Francis 18 yrs a hosiery worker and Harold 13 yrs a box maker

Military History

Rifleman Harold Hodges enlisted at Nottingham he appears to have enlisted with R/8357 Rifleman Richard Clark, a fellow 'Dako Boy', who died of wounds 27 July 1916. Harold served in France from 19 May 1915 he died of wounds and was buried in Bedford House Cemetery (grave reference Enclosure No 2. IV.B.56). Qualified for the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
