Reuben Haines Banham was born in 1880 at Leicester and was the son of John Thomas and Mary Ann Banham. He married his first wife Ada Agnes Sumner in 1902 at Nottingham, they went on to have two children, Gertrude Mary born 26th February 1904 and Reuben Bernard born 26th April 1906 , his first wife Ada died in 1907 at Nottingham she was 27 yrs of age. In the 1911 census - Reuben a widow is boarding at 195 Carlton Road, Nottingham, he is shown as being 31 yrs of age a widow and a plumber at a gas works, he is living at the address with his son Reuben 4 yrs, they are living with Richard Bell Briggs 41 yrs a jacquard card printer and his family. He later re married in 1913 at Nottingham to Florence Gillespie born 10th August 1878 they lived at 38 Melrose Street Sherwood Nottingham and later 50 Alfred Street South, Nottingham, they had two further children, Herbert Haines born 22nd April 1915 and Richard Stewart born 25th January 1918. Reuben's probate was proven with a will on 15th April 1919 at Nottingham it shows him as Reuben Haines Banham of 50 Alfred Street South, Nottingham, he left his effects of 3461 3 shillings and 10 pence to his wife Florence Benham, widow.
Gunner Reuben Haines Banham enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 207th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. He died of wounds on 28th October 1918 and is buried in Awoingt British Cemetery.
Obituary Nottingham Evening Post dated 28th October 1919:- “BANHAM. – In loving memory of my dear husband, Reuben Haynes Banham, plumber, 50 Alfred-street South, who died of wounds in France October 28th, 1918, buried at Awoingt. I cannot call thee back again.
