Family History

Alexander Wagner Walkyier was born in 1880 on the Isle of Wight, the son of Wallyer Wagner Walkyier (1853-1912) a house decorator and Mary Jane Fearson (1853 - 1908) of Arkwright Street, Nottingham. Alexander married Kate Fryer (born 22nd July 1884) in 1906 at Nottingham, they had two children, Alexander Wagner born 13th December 1906 and Jessie born 17th October 1909 they lived at 2 Alton Terrace Hyson Green and later 5 Beckenham Road Radford (both Nottingham). In 1911 Alexander and his family are living at 2 Elton Terrace, St Pauls Ave, Hyson Green , the family are boarding with George Girling 29 yrs a postman and his family. Alexander is shown as being 31 yrs and a machine fitter, living with his wife Kate 27 yrs a cigar maker and their 2 children, Alexander 5yrs and Jessie 2 yrs of age. His pension record card shows his widow was awarded a pension of 8 shillings and 6 pence a week the family rate , reason was his wife was separated from him when he died.

Military History

Private Alexander Walkyier enlisted at Stamford, Lincolnshire whilst residing at Nottingham he served with the 1/4th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. Landing in France on 1st March 1915 he was killed in action on 13th October 1915 and is buried at Arras Road Cemetery Roclincourt
