Herbert Tomlinson was born in 1893 the son of Walter a lace draughtsman and Clara Mary Tomlinson née Tomlinson and the brother of Dorothy Tomlinson. They lived at 63 Burford Road Forest Fields Nottingham. Walter was born in 1864 at Lenton, Clara Mary Tomlinson was born in 1867 at Sneinton, they were married in 1892 at Nottingham and had two children. In 1911 the family are living at 63 Burford Road, Nottingham, Walter 47 yrs is a lace draughtsman, Herbert is 18 yrs and is also a lace draughtsman.
Private Herbert Tomlinson enlisted at Nottingham, he was killed in action on 27th September 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial
