Family History

Albert Carnill was born on 9th February 1880 at Lowdham and was the son of the late Thomas a builder and Hannah Carnhill nee Stokes of Station Road,Lowdham. His father Thomas was born in 1845 at Lowdham, he died on 6th June 1902 aged 57 and his mother Hannah Stokes was born in 1845 at Lowdham, they were married in 1866 at Nottingham and went on to have the following children, Clara b1867, Arthur b1868, Annie b1873, William b1874, Thomas b1880, Albert b1880 . In the 1911 census the family are living at Lowdham village and are shown as Hannah 66 yrs a widow, she is living with her children, Annie 38 yrs no occupation listed and Albert 31 yrs a bricklayer also living with them is George Stokes Carnill 6 yrs her grandson. His sister is shown on the cwgc as Miss A. Carnill, of Station Rd., Lowdham, Nottingham.

Military History

Sapper Albert Carhill enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Lowdham, he served with the 130th field company Royal Engineers. He landed in France on 28th September 1915 and was killed in action on 10th July 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
