Arthur Whitmore was born in 1874 at Coventry the son of Thomas a commission agent and Anne Whitmore née Smith of Beckenham Road, Radford. Thomas was born in 1844 at Coventry, Anne Smith was born in 1843 at Foleshill, Warwickshire, married in 1871 at Foleshill they had 6 children. Arthur married Harriet Brignoli (born 29th July 1874 ) in 1897 at Nottingham, thye had 2 sons Thomas born 15th September 1897 and Frederick Noel born 8th July 1909 they lived at 39 Forest Street, Hyson Green. He was living at 20 Hartley Road, Radford, Nottingham when he enlisted

Military History

Lance Corporal Arthur Whitmore enlisted at Nottingham on 14th June 1915, he gave his age as 39 yrs and 3 months he stated he was a watchmaker., he was killed in action on 19th October 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
