Family History

Edwin Whitehead was born in 1882 the son of the late George a farm labourer and Elizabeth Whitehead née Jessop of 29 Queens Street, Old Basford, Nottingham. George was born in 1849 at Edwinstowe, he died in 1915 aged 66 yrs, Elizabeth Jessop was born in 1856 at Matlock, married on 13th December 1874 at Brackenfield, Derbyshire they went on to have 10 children. In 1911 the family lived at 29 Queen Street, Old Basford, George 64 yrs was a afarm labourer, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 53 and 6 of their children. Edwin married Pricilla Fox (born 10th November 1881) in 1907 at Nottingham, they lived at 31 Queen Street, Old Basford and later 1 Lenton Street Hyson Green Nottingham. They had two daughters Lily born 27th June 1906 and Annie born 13th April 19180 Commencing 24th June 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military History

Private Edwin Whitehead enlisted at Worksop whilst residing at Hyson Green , he was killed in action on 20th October 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial
