Family History

Harry Alan Shipman was born in 1890 at Kirkdale, the son of the late Henry a railway goods checker and Elizabeth Shipman née William of 104 Noel Street Nottingham. Henry was born in 1853 at Draycott and died in 1913 aged 60 yrs, Elizabeth Williams was born in 1849 at Liverpool they were married in 1874 at West Derby, Liverpool, they had 4 children. In 1911 the family lived ta 55 Endborne Road, Walton, Liverpool, Henry is 58 yrs and a railway goods checker, he is living with his wife Eliabeth 62 yrs and two of their children, Walter Edward 27 yrs a railway clerk and Henry Alan 21 yrs also a railway clerk.

Military History

Lance Sergeant Harry Alan Shipman enlisted on 2nd September 1914 at Liverpool, giving his residence as Nottingham, he was promoted to Lance Sergeant on 28th August 1915 and embarked from Southampton on 7th November 1915. He was killed in action on 30th July 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
