Family History

George Harold Roberts was born in 1895 the son of Charles an insurance collector and Elizabeth Roberts née Emberson and the brother of Charles Frederick and Dorothy Roberts. They lived at 177 Birkin Avenue Hyson Green Nottingham Charles was born in 1858, Elizabeth Emberson was born in 1865 both were born in Lincoln, married in 1883 at Lincoln they went on to have 6 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 177 Birkin Ave, Hyson Green, Charles is 53 yrs and an insurance collector, George is 16 yrs and a bobbin and carriage hand.

Military History

Private George Harold Roberts enlisted at Coventry, he served with the 11th battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 12th August 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial
