George Smith Oglesby (junior) was born in 1891 at Carlton, the son of the late George Smith Oglesby (senior) and Elizabeth Oglesby née Phillips of 11 Standhill Road, Carlton. George Smith Oglesby (senior) was born in 1845 at Wisbech, he died in 1898 aged 53 yrs, Elizabeth Phillips was born in 1854 at Carlton , they were married on 23rd November 1894 at St Mary's Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 7 children, 2 sadly were to die in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 his widowed mother was livng at 11 Standhill Road, Carlton she is 57 yrs of age, a widow and is living with her daughters Florence 25 yrs a lace jennier and Lucy 24 yrs a lace finisher. George Smith Oglesby (junior) married Daisy Clifford (born 12th July 1890) in 1909 at Nottingham, they had a son George born 7th January 1910, he died on 21st April 1918 they lived at 5 Shipstone Street, Hyson Green. In 1911 they lived at 8 Shipstone Terrace Hyson Green Nottingham. Commencing 25th November 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.
Private George Smith Oglesby enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Hyson Green. He was killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact) Having no known grave his name is Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
