Austin Joseph Lawless was born in 1886 at Halifax the son of John a pub landlord and Katherine Lawless née O'Brien of Water Street, Stamford. John was born in 1847 at Count Mayo, Catherine O'Brien was born in 1851 at Stamford, married in 1866 at Halifax, they went on to have 11 children, sadly 4 died in infancy or early childhood. Austin Joseph married Rose Ellen Angel Glover on 11th December 1909 at Nottingham, they had a daughter Sarah Betsy Elizabeth Lawless born 1910 at Nottingham. In 1911 the family lived at 226 Birkin Avenue Hyson Green Nottingham with his wives grandparents William Henry Conway 51 years a coal miner and his wife Sarah, 42 yrs, Austin is 25 yrs of age and is a carter, and is with his wife Rose Ellen Lawless 19 yrs a lace hand. In 1911 his parents are living at Fox Hounds Inn 4 Water Street, Stamford, his father John in 64 yrs a pub landlord living with his wife Catherine Lawless 60 yrs.

Military History

Private Austin Lawless enlisted at Lincoln whilst residing at Hyson Green, Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He landed in France on 30th September 1915 and died of wounds on 26th October 1916 and is buried at Grove Town Cemetery, Meaulte, Somme, France, grave reference II.B.26
