Family History

George Gutteridge was born in 1885 he was the son of John a hosiery machine worker and Elizabeth Gutteridge née Holmes and the brother of May, Clarice and Harry Gutteridge. John was born in 1858 and Elizabeth Holmes was born in 1860 both were born in Loughborough, they were married in 1878 at Loughborough and went on to have 7 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 they lived at Carnarvon Grove and later at 12 Lime Avenue (both Huthwaite Nottinghamshire. John is 53 yrs and a hosiery machine worker he is living with his wife Elizabeth 51 yrs and three of their children, George 24 yrs is a coal miner hewer.

Military History

Private George Gutteridge 14th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, transferred (16986) to 29th Coy. Labour Corps. He died of pneumonia on 17th November 1918 at the 2nd Australian Hospital in France. and is buried at Terlincthun British Cemetery, France.

"God's finger touched him and he slept" - from Mother, Father, brother and Sister.
