Charles Henry Dooley was born in 1879 at Nottingham and was the son of Alfred Henry a lace maker and the late Emma Caroline Dooley née Hatton of 39 Pleasant Row, Hyson Green. Alfred Henry was born in 1855 at Nottingham Emma Caroline Hatton was born in 1857 also at Nottingham, she died in 1903 aged 46 yrs they had 5 children, James Alfred b1881, Joseph Arthur b1886, Percy b1888 and Harry b1899. In 1911 the family are living at 39 Pleasant Row, Hyson Green, Alfred Henry is 56 yrs a lace maker. Charles Henry married Annie Handley (born 26th January 1879) in Nottingham in 1899 they lived at 17 Bidford Square Hyson Green Nottingham they had the following children, Percy born 11th December 1903, Lily born 23rd June 1907 and Edith born 29th April 1910. Commencing 16th July 1017 his widow Annie was awarded a pension of 26 shillings and 3 pence a week.
Private Charles Henry Dooley enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 6076 in the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment). He was killed in action on 18th November 1916 and is buried at Grandcourt Road Cemetery Grandcourt
His two younger brother were also killed during the Great War. His brother Private Joseph Arthur Dooley, 1st Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire, was killed in action on 7th June 1916. He landed in France with the battalion on 4th November 1914 and is buried in Tranchee de Mecknes Cemetery, Aix-Noulette. His brother Private James Alfred Dooley, 1st Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, was killed in action on 5th July 1916. His name is Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial
