Family History

Leonard Collinson was born in 1890 the son of William a lace maker and Mary Ann Collinson née Pilkington and the brother of Ernest William, Ethel, Harold, Bernard, Clarice, Wilfred and Hilda Ann Collinson. William was born in 1867 at Lenton, Mary Ann Pilkington was born in 1866 at Nottingham, married in 1884 at Nottingham they went on to have 8 children. In 1911 the family lived at 1 Dalkeith Terrace Hyson Green Nottingham. Leonard married Louie Judkins (born 5th May 1889) on 22nd April 1916 at the Parish Church, Hyson Green, they lived at 9 Oldknow Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham, Commencing 5th November 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Private Leonard Collinson, enlisted at Nottingham 8th December 1916 giving his age as 25 yrs and 9 months and his occupation as painter and paper hanger. Embarking from Folkstone on 25th February 1917 landing the same day at Boulogne and was killed in action 15th April 1917, aged 27. Buried : Feuchy Chapel British Cemetery, Wancourt, France. Plot III. In memoriam published 15th April 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “COLLINSON. – In loving memory of Leonard, the dearly loved son of William and Annie Collinson, killed in action April 15th, 1917, aged 27 years. What happy hours we once enjoyed, how sweet those memories still; a place is vacant in our home, the world can never fill. Never forgotten. – Sorrowing mother and dad. “COLLINSON. – In loving memory of my dear husband, Leonard, killed in action April 15th, 1917, aged 27. A loving husband, a faithful friend, one of the best that God could send; he always tried to do his best, and now he is taking his heavenly rest. – Dearly loved and sadly missed by his sorrowing wife Louie. “COLLINSON. – In loving memory of Leonard, who died on April 15th, 1917.
