He was the son of Henry Edward Banks and Louise Ann Brown. He was the brother of Louise Lavinia and Wilfred Harold Brown. In 1911 they lived at 40 Albert Avenue Nottingham. Henry and Louise Brown later moved to 107 Birkin Avenue Hyson Green Nottingham.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
