Employment, Education or Hobbies He was a pupil at the Grosvenor School, Waterloo Crescent, Nottingham (the school later moved to West Bridgford and closed in 2014). He worked in commerce in London for fifteen months before enlistment with Shoolbreds. His employer, Rupert Shoolbred, was the commanding officer of the Westminster Rifles and invited Saxton to join (see letters).
Family History

Harold Henry Saxton was born in 1895 and was the son of George Henry a grocer and Mary Wilcockson Saxton née Bircumshaw of Church Street Stores, Eastwood, Nottinghamshire and the grandson of Henry Saxton JP. George Henry was born in 1869, Mary Bircumshaw was born in 1874 both were born at Eastwood, they were married in 1892 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 4 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at Church Street, Eastwood, George Henry is 42 yrs a grocer, he is living with his wife Mary 37 yrs and their children, Elsie May 17 yrs Harold Henry 16 yrs and Reginald Joseph 14 yrs all are listed as scholars.

Military History

Rifleman Harold Henry Saxton enlisted on 16th February 1914 at Tottenham Court Road, London, giving his age as 19 yrs and 11 months, he was a draper, he was posted to the 1/16th Battalion (Queen's Westminster Rifles) and was embodied on 5th August 1914. He landed in France on 1st November 1914, he was killed in action a gun shot to the head on 10th December 1914 and is buried at Ration Farm Military Cemetery.
