Father: Thomas Jackson, born in 1855 at Wymeswold, Leicestershire, working as a warehouseman. Mother: Annie Jackson, born 1855, Nottingham. The family lived at 6 St. Cecilia Terrace, Peas Hill Road, Nottingham. Brothers: Thomas S., born in 1879, Sidney F., born in 1879, working as a lace warehouseman, George W., born in 1880, working as a joiner and builder and Charles, born 1888, working as a lace warehouseman. Sisters: Mary E., born in 1878 and Gertrude H., born in 1881, working as a blouse hand. All the children were born in Nottingham. Ernest Jackson married Emily Jackson, née Carlisle, and they had a daughter Emily May born 31st May 1914 in Nottingham and a son Thomas William, born 25th January 1918 in Nottingham. They lived at 6 St Cecilia Terrace, Peas Hill Road, Nottingham. His widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and five pence commencing on 7th October 1918. (pension record card)
Jackson was called up for service and following training he was drafted to France. His battalion was situated south of Arras when the great German offensive Operation Michael was unleashed on 21/03/1918. The battalion was forced back by the overwhelming German infantry, Pte. Jackson, who was a bandsman and stretcher bearer, died on 22nd March 1918 of heart failure dying on the second day of the offensive and is buried at Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension.
