Charles Henry Wells was born in 1878 at Eastwood and was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Wells of Walker Street Eastwood Nottinghamshire Charles married his wife Millicent Mary Clayton on 18th July 1903 at the Basford registration office, they had the following children, Frederick Severn born July 1904, Leslie born August 1905, Dorothy born June 1909 and Dulcie May born April 1904, they lived at 19 Dame Agnes Street, Nottingham Following his death his widow Millicent lived at Ullenhall, Henley-in-Arden Warwickshire.
Corporal Charles Henry Wells enlisted at Nottingham on 1st April 1915, giving his age as 36 yrs and 11 months, his address as 19 Dame Agnes Street, Nottingham, he was married his wife was Millicent of the same address. He stated he had previous military service having served in the South Nottinghamshire Hussars for 189 days, his occupation was that of a groom. He was posted to the Army Service Corps and served with Remounts unit, promoted to Corporal on 10th May 1915. He served on the home front until 12th November 1917 when he joined the British Expeditionary Force embarking from Southampton on 12th November 1917 disembarking at Le Harve. On 28th December 1917 he was sent to Italy and joined the 33rd remount section. On 30th September 1918 he was admitted to the 29th stationary hospital with Pyrexiia and he died on 21st October 1918 of bronchitis and pneumonia. He is buried at Cremona Town Cemetery Italy.
