Family History

He was the son of Agnes and William Wolstenholme and the brother of Harold Wolstenholme. In 1911 they lived at 24 Poplar Street Retford Nottinghamshire. Agnes and William later returned to Manchester. He was the husband of Ada (née Ashton) Wolstenholmne and the father of Hilda Wolstenholme. They lived at 25 Chapel Lane Blackley Manchester.

Military History

Robert enlisted in Manchester in June 1917 he was working and living in the Manchester area at the time, he initially served with service number 205459 in the Lancashire Fusiliers. He later transferred to the 21st bn Manchester Regiment . He was killed in action on 15th June 1918 in Italy and is buried in Granezza British Cemetery Italy, plot 2 row C grave 4

Cpl Robert Wolstenholme Retford Times 19th July 1918 Native of Retford killed Mr and Mrs Wolstenholme 24 Poplar Street, have received information that their son, Cpl Robert Wolstenholme , Manchester Regiment, was killed in action in Italy on June 15th. Corpl Wolstenholme was a native of Retford and served hiss apprenticeship as a moulder at Messers Jenkins and Co's works where his father is employed as a driller. He left the trade to which he was apprenticed and when he joined up in June 1917 was employed on the London and North Western Railway as a checker at Manchester where he resided. He was 31 years of age and leaves a widow and child to mourn his loss. Much sympathy is felt with the widow and parents in their bereavement.
