Horace Wilkinson was born in 1879 in Sturton Le Steeple and was the son of John a cattle dealer and Catherine Wilkinson, née Stanser of Sturton-Le-Steeple, Notts.His father John was born in 1823 in Sturton Le Steeple and his mother Catherine Stanser was born in 1842 in Struton Le Steeple, they were married in 1864 their marriage was recorded in the East Retford Registration district, they went on to have the following 9 children all of whom were born in Sturton Le Steeple, Benjamin b1865, George b1866, John Stanser b1867, Mary Catherine b1869, William Henry b1871, Thomas b1873 ,James b1877, Horace b1879, Jane b1881. His father John died aged 77 yrs in 1900 in Sturton Le Steeple. In the 1911 census we find Horace single 32 yrs of age and a builder, born Sturton, he is living at 49 Rusholme Road, West Hill Putney, he is living at the address with his sister Jane Wilkinson 30 yrs born Sturton (no occupation listed) and a general domestic servant Jane Apperley 21 yrs born Tetbury His probate was proven on 11th February 1919 at London , shows him as Horace Wilkinson 49 Rusholme Road, Putney Heath, Surrey Captain Loyal North Lancashire Regiment died 31st October 1918 in France his effects of £193 16 shillings were left to Benjamin Wilkinson, solicitor.
Captain Horace Wilkinson served with the 1/12th Battalion, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment , he died of wounds on 31st October 1918 , he is buried in Fretin Communal CemeteryThe London Gazette dated 4th January 1916 announced that Second Lieutenant Horace Wilkinson was to become a temporary Lieutenant in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment from 15th November 1915
