Percy Walker was born in 1892 in Nottingham and was the son of James a lace worker and Ruth Walker née Gregory they lived at 8 Olknow Street, Nottingham. His father James was born in 1830 in Nottingham and his mother Ruth Gregory was born in 1847 also in Nottingham, in the 1911 census they state that they have been married for 43 yrs (C1868) and have had 13 children, 2 of whom had sadly died in infancy or early childhood. Their surviving children were all born in Nottingham and were : Laura b1870, Florence b1873, George b1876, Ada Lily b1880, Gertrude b1882, Clara b1884, Mabel b1889, Arthur b1888, Walter b1890, Percy b1892 and Ethel 1894. In the 1911 census the family are living at 6 Oldknow Street, Nottingham and are shown as James 81 yrs a retired lace worker, he is living with his wife Ruth 64 yrs and their children Arthur 23 yrs an art cane worker, Walter 21 yrs a lace worker and Percy 18 yrs a butcher. His in memoriam notice in the local paper gives his address as Bridlington Street, Radford
Private Percy Walker, enlisted at Nottingham giving his residence as Mansfield he served with the 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, he was killed in action on 30th April 1916 and is buried in Le Touret Military Cemetery, Richebourg-L'Avoue.
In memorial published 30th April 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- WALKER. – In loving memory of our dear brother, Private Percy Walker, Sherwood Foresters, of Bridlington-street, Radford, killed in action April 30th, 1916, aged 23.
