Charles Edwin Taylor was born in 1901 in Willingore, Lincolnshire and was the son of Frederick a carter and Mary Ann Taylor née Sampson of 47, Wood St, Newark, Nottinghamshire. His father Frederick was born in 1879 at Harmston, Lincolnshire and his mother Mary Ann Sampson was born in 1872 at Navenby, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1900 and their marriage was recorded at Harmston. They went on to have the following children, Charles Edwin b1901 Wellingore, William Newby b1904 Newark, Florence May b1905 Newark, Doris Irene b1906 Newark and Annie Elizabeth born 1910 in Newark. In the 1911 census the family are living at 47 Wood Street, Newark and are shown as Frederick Taylor 32 yrs a carter, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 34 yrs and thier children, Charles Edwin 10 yrs a scholar, William Newby 7 yrs a scholar, Florence May 6 yrs, Doris Irene 5 yrs and Annie Elizabeth 10 months of age.
Driver Charles Edwin Taylor enlisted Easter 1919 and served with the 671st Company Army Service Corps. He went out to France and Egypt and went to the Island of Lemnos where he died on 24th June 1920 of a cerebral abscess. He is buried at Portianos Military Cemetery Greece, grave reference III.C.347
Article published 31st July 1920 in the Newark Herald :- Eldest son of Mr & Mrs Frederick Taylor, 47 Wood Street, Newark. Age 19. Enlisted Easter 1919, after training went to France and Egypt. Later sent to the island of Lemnos, where reported to have died.
