Wallace Alfred Starbuck was born in 1892 at North Muskham and was the son of the late Richard and Caroline Starbuck née Swallow of North Muskham, Newark, His father Richard was born in 1877 at Cromwell, he died in 1909 aged 53 yrs, his mother Caroline Swallow was born in 1855 at Bathley, they were married in 1876, their marriage was recorded in the Southwell registration district, they went on to have 16 children, sadly 5 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, Susan b1878, Caroline b1879, Lavinia b1881, Blanche b1882, Thomas b1883, Mary b1884, Albert b1888, Olive b1891, Wallace b1892 and Ivy Sarah b1897. In the 1911 census his widowed mother and siblings were living at North Muskham and were shown as Caroline 56 yrs a widow, she is living with her children, Albert Edward 23 yrs a millers labourer, Wallace 23 yrs a farm labourer, Sarah 19 yrs, His pension record card shows his dependant as his sister Sarah Ivy Starbuck of 12 Bedford Street, Nelson, Lancashire.

Military History

Private Wallace Alfred Starbuck enlisted at Nelson Lancashire and initially served with the service number 24364 in the East Lancashire Regiment. He was serving with the 9th battalion Leicestershire Regiment when he was killed in action on 1st October 1917, he is buried at Tyne Cot Cemetery
