Family History

John Henry was born in 1882 and was the son of James Wood a coal miner and Jane Wood née Warrener who lived at 94 Beardall Street Hucknall. His father James was born in 1846 in Leicestershire and his mother Jane Warrender was born in 1846 in Hucknall they were married in 1866, their marriage being recorded in the Basford Registration area. they went on to have the following children, Rebecca b1869 Bulwell, Thomas b1871 Bulwell, Mary J b1875 Hucknall, James b1877 Hucknall, Francis b1878 Hucknall Charles b188o Hucknall John Henry b1882 Hucknall. His mother Jane died in 1896 in Hucknall she was 50 yrs of age John Henry married Florence Hoult on 26th December 1906 at Hucknall and they had the following children: William Henry (b.7/4/1907), Samuel (b.13/1/1910) and Phyllis May (b.10/8/1915) Wood. In 1911 they lived at 97 Carlingford Road Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire.

Military History

John Henry Wood enlisted in Nottingham on 24th June 1916 aged 35 and 5 months. He was placed into the reserves the following day. He was called up for service and mobilised on 30th June 1917 and was posted to the 4th Battalion Sherwood Foresters on 4th July 1917. On the 23rd October 1917 he embarked for France from Folkestone, arriving the same day at Boulogne. On 29th October 1917 was transferred to the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters. He was killed in action on 17th April 1918. He is buried in Haringhe (Bandaghem ) Military Cemetery Belgium.
