He was the son of Charles (died 1900) and Emily Scattergood and the brother of Herbert Scattergood. In 1911 they lived at 27 Gladstone Street St Mary's and later at 18 St Ledger Terrace Westminster Street St Ann's (both Nottingham).

Military History

Ernest Charles Scattergood entered theatre after 1 January 1916, possibly as a conscript. He was probably wounded or taken ill during the battalion's winter occupation of front line trenches near St Pierre Divion next to the River Ancre, (Somme). It was a waterlogged area and illness was ever present. Ernest would have been moved down the casualty clearing line to a hospital in the UK ( probably Bagthorpe War Hospital Nottingham) and died of his wounds/illness. His grave is in Nottingham General Cemetery, grave 3341.
