Family History

William Richardson was born in 1899 at Nottingham, he was the son of Samuel (Sam) a colliery deputy and his first wife the late Edith Annie Richardson née Bird of 115 Netherton Road, Worksop. His father Samuel was bor in 1871 at Nottingham, hIs mother Edith Annie Bird was born in 1873 at Goole she died in 1904 at Worksop she was 29 yrs of age. they were married on 14th March 1893 at St Wilfred’s Church, Kirkby in Ashfield, they went on to have 4 children. In the 1911 census the family are living at 115 Netherton Road, Worksop, Sam 40 yrs a colliery deputy, he is living with his second wife Emma 43 yrs (born 1868 at Nottingham,) and their children, Grace 14 yrs, William 12 yrs, Thomas 10 yrs and Alexander Isaac 8 yrs,

Military History

Private William Richardson enlisted at York whilst residing at Retford, he served with the 2/6th battalion West Yorkshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 3rd May 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
