Family History

James Tom Perrin was born in 1898 at Shelford and was the son of James a cottager and Ellen Perrin née Hawes of Shelford, Nottinghamshire. His father James was born in 1847 at Shelford and his mother Ellen Hawes was born in 1863 at Brandon, Suffolk, they were married in 1894 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham Registration District. They went on to have a further son Arthur born in 1897 also at Shelford. In the 1911 census the family are living in Shelford Village and are shown as James 64 yrs a cottager he is living with his wife Ellen 48 yrs and their children Arthur 14 yrs a scholar and Tom 13 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private John Tom Perrin enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Shelford, he initially served with service number 241763 in in the King's Own Scottish Borderers before transferring to the 1st battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was killed in action on the 23rd October 1918 and is buried in Poix-du-Nord Communal Cemetery Extension grave reference 2.B.29
