He was the son of Mary Elizabeth Key of 12 Herbert Street Mansfield Nottinghamshire.

Military History

Lance Corporal William Henry Key, enlisted on 2nd June 1915 at Mansfield he gave his age as 24 yrs and 277 days , his address as 12 Herbert Street, Mansfield, he was a coal miner and his next of kin was his mother Mary Elizabeth Key of the same address. He served with the 16th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment (Chatsworth Rifles), and landed in France on 6th March 1916. He was killed in action during a trench raid on 4th June 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
