Edmund was born in 1894 at Doncaster and lived with his parents Thomas a shepherd and Jane Hudson née Atkinson at Home Farm at Strelley, Nottingham. In the 1911 census he is living at Shaftsbury Ave, St Neots he is shown as 1 yrs of age, single and a railway clerk, he is living at a boarding house with Alice Willoughby a boarding house keeper.
Edmund Hudson enlisted on 23rd November 1915 and trained on home duties until he was sent to France on 1st April 1916 joining his battalion on 14th April. On 4th July 1916 he was returned home admitted to hospital on 7th July suffering from shell shock and treated for twenty two days. He was again hospitalised on 16th August 1916 with acute bronchitis and released on this occasion after 20 days. On 25th November 1916 after serving for a total of one year and three days he was discharged from the army ‘no longer fit for military service,’ with TB. After discharge into the care of his parents Edmund was awarded a pension of 20 shillings a week which was regularly reviewed and due to expire on 27th January 1920. He succumbed to his illnesses on 24th November 1919. He was buried in Strelley churchyard and his grave is marked by a commonwealth war grave headstone.
He was 5 feet 7 ½ inches tall and weighed 9 stone 12 lbs and had a chest measurement of 38 inches (Medical report 20/11/1915).
