Ernest Goddard was born in Radford in 1882 and was the son of Thomas Goddard.
Ernest married Mary Elizabeth Enerby (b. 22 March 1881, East Bridgford) on 22nd Janaury 1910 at St Saviours Church, Nottingham. They lived at Millgate, East Bridgford, Nottinghamshire.
In 1911, Ernest (28), a railway porter/drayman, and Mary (27) were living at 228 Waterway Street, Nottingham.
His widow married secondly Private George Dawson, 14th Battalion Sherwood Foresters, on 10 February 1917.
Boer War veteran Private Ernest Goddard was born in Radford and enlisted at Grimsby.
He served with the 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment and was killed in action on 5 February 1915. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
His brother, Sergeant William Albert Goddard, 15th Field Coy Royal Engineers, was killed in action on 25 September 1915. (See record on this Roll of Honour)
