Ernest Goddard was born in Radford in 1882 and was the son of Thomas Goddard. Ernest married his wife Mary Elizabeth Enerby in 1910 in Nottingham, she was born in 1882 in East Bridgford. In the 1911 census he is living at 228 Waterway Street, Nottingham he is shown as Ernest Goddard 28 yrs a railway porter drayman and he is living with his wife Mary Elizabeth 27 yrs

Military History

Boer War veteran, Private Ernest Goddard, was born in Radford and enlisted at Grimsby he served with the 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 5th February 1915, he has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial, Ypres, Belgium.

His brother was Sergeant William Albert Goddard 15th Field Coy Royal Engineers who was killed in action 25th September 1915 Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged) 19 October 1915: 'GODDARD, killed in action September 25th Sergeant WA Goddard, Royal Engineers, age 35; also brother Ernest, killed in action February 5th. Sherwood Street Nottingham – mother'.
