Sidney Jackson Barratt was born in 1896 at Plungar, Nottinghamshire, he was the son of William Barratt a carrier and Elizabeth Alice Barratt née Jackson of Plungar village, Nottinghamshire. His father William Barratt was born in 1865 in Langar, his mother Elizabeth Alice Jackson was born in 1866 at Caton, Lancashire, they were married in 1892 their marriage was recorded in the Melton Mowbray registration district. They went on to have 4 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood, in the 1911 census the family are living at Plungar, William 26 yrs is a carrier, he is living with his wife Elizabeth Alice 45 yrs and their sons, Sydney 15 yrs a farm worker, Frank Eric 13 yrs and Albert 8 yrs of age.

Military History

Private Sidney Jackson Barratt enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion Grenadier Guards, he was killed in action on 27th August 1918 and is buried at Croisilles British Cemetery, France.

Extra Information

His brother Private Frank Eric Barratt enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Plunger, he served with the 3rd battalion Coldstream Guards, he was killed in action on 30th July 1917, having no know grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium
