Of the five children born to Charles and Sarah Ann née Hall, Albert Edward was the youngest. He was born in 1884 in Barrow, Suffolk. He lived in Barrow until he moved to Terry Hill, Radstock, Somerset where re was resident in 1911 working as a gamekeeper. By 1914 he was living at Moults Cottage, Caudwell Wood, Mansfield as he married there to Beatrice Roff at St Marks Church on 15 April 1914. Their daughter, Isabel Beatrice was born on 18th November 1916, registered at Mansfield. After the war Beatrice and her daughter moved to 22, Balvernie Grove, Southfields, London.
Albert volunteered four months after war was declared. He was attested at Mansfield on the 3rd November 1914, for the RGA declaring his civilian address was the Moults Cottage, Caudwell Wood, Mansfield and worked as a gamekeeper. He was put on the Army reserve the following day and was mobilised on the 10th June 1916. The following year on 12th May 1917 he was drafted to France. He was posted to the RGA 442 Siege battery in November of that year. He remained in France after the armistice and on the 1st of April 1919, his wife Beatrice, received a telegram stating that her husband was dangerously ill in hospital. Albert died on the 6th April 1919 of bronchial pneumonia. He was buried in the Abbeville Communal Cemetery Extension in the Somme locality.
