Family History

William Parsons was born in 1879 at Hucknall and was the son of George an agent for Britannic Assurance Society and Elizabeth Parsons, née Newbutt of 85 Derbyshire Lane Hucknall Torkard, Nottingham. His father George was born in 1855 in Hucknall and his mother Elizabeth Newbutt was born in 1854 also in Hucknall, they were married in 1873 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they went on to have a further son James Joseph b1882 at Hucknall. In the 1911 census his parents are living at 85 Derbyshire Lane, Hucknall and are shown as George 56 yrs an a gent for the Britannic Assurance Society, he is livng with his wife Elizabeth 57 yrs. William married his wife Carrie Stockley in 1910, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District. They have the following children, Julia Elizabeth born 13th June 1911, George Everard born 20th July 1912, William Wesley born 7th March 1914 and Gordon Leslie born 3rd May 1915. In the 1911 census William and his wife Carrie are living at 18 Linby Grove, Hucknall and are shown as William 32 yrs a coal miner and Carrie 29 yrs. Following his death his widow lived at 53, North St., Whitwick, Leicester she was awarded a pension of 33 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 29th July 1918. His widow remarried and became Carrie Bishop.

Military History

Private William Parsons enlisted at Mansfield he initially served with the service number 17546 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was serving with the 11th battalion Leicestershire Regiment when he died of wounds on 20th December 1917 and is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
