He was the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Birch and the brother of Frederick George, William Clay, Alfred Edward, Harold Edgar, Constance, Leslie and Ernest Aden Birch. In 1911 they lived at 9 Wharf Road Mansfield. He was the husband of Beatrice (née Harford) Birch who later lived at 45 Dallas Street Mansfield.
