Family History

Edwin Cook was baptised on 27th February 1894 at the parish church at Featherston, Yorkshire he was the son of William a pit sinker and Amelia Cook née Hayward of Rose Dene, Clipstone Colliery, Edwinstowe, nr. Newark, Notts. William was born in 1862 at Warsop and Amelia Hayward was born in 1858 in Gibralter, Spain they were married in 1885 at Whittington, Derbyshire and went on to have 12 children, sadly two of whom died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 36 1st Avenue Forest Town Mansfield, William 48 yrs is a coal miner he is living with his wife Amelia 52 yrs and 6 of their children including Edwin 16 yrs a colliery labourer.

Military History

Private Edwin Cook enlisted at Mansfield he served with 175th Tunnelling Company, Royal Engineers, he died on 21st August 1916 and is buried at Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont-St. Eloi.
