Walter Corah was born at Arnold in 1889, the son of the late William Corah a bricklayers labourer and Amelia Corah née Goadby of 64 Duke Street, Arnold, Nottingham. His father William was born in 1853 in Arnold and worked as a bricklayers labourer while his mother Amelia Goadby was born in 1859 also in Arnold (she had previously been married to Frederick Millhouse born 1850 died 1882 they were married in 1881 and had a son Frederick born 1881) William and Amelia were married in 1886 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had the following children, Albert b1887, Walter b1889, and Edward b1892, all were born in Arnold. In the 1911 census the family are living at Worrall Street, Arnold and are shown as Amelia 51 yrs a widow , she is living with her son Albert 23 yrs a gardener, Walter is not living with his widowed mother, he has not been traced in the 1911 census.
Private Walter Corah enlisted into the Lincolnshire Regiment at Mansfield. He went to France and Flanders with his regiment and in 1917, he was with them serving in France where the British Army had opened the Battle of Arras. Walter was a casualty of this offensive and is buried in Maroc British Cemetery, France
He is buried in Maroc British Cemetery, France and his name is commemorated on his families grave at Redhill Cemetery,Arnold This man is commemorated in a book of remembrance held by Mansfield District Council.
