Family History

Ernest Charles Truelove was born in 1881 and was the son of William Benjamin a naval retiree and Emma Jane Truelove née McLean of 7 Waterloo Terrace, Gadd Street, Nottingham. William Benjamin was born in 1851 at Linslade, Buckinghamshire, Emma Jane Mclean was born in 1852 at Halifax Nova Scotia, they were married on 14th December 1875 at Halifax, Nova Scotia, they went on to have 11 children, sadly 4 died in infancy oe early childhood. In 191 his parents were living at 7 Waterloo Terrace, Gadd Street, Nottingham, William Benjamin is 60 years and is a naval pensioner, he is living with his wife Emma Jane 59 yrs and two of their daughters, Bertha 26 yrs and Elizabeth 18 yrs. Ernest married Florence Buck (born 26th November 1887) in 1907 at Nottingham, they went on to have the following children, Ernest Charles born 3rd February 1909, Francis May born 1st May 1910 and Alfred born 9th August 1911 In 1911 they lived at 16 Peas Hill Rise Peas Hill Road St Ann's Nottingham, Ernest Charles is 30 yrs and is a yeast merchant, living with his wife Florence 25 yrs and their children, Ernest Charles 2 yrs and Francis May 11 months. Commencing 23rd April 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 26 shillings and 3 pence a week. His widow later re married on 26th December 1917 at Nottingham to Arthur Starsmore, they lived at 11 Lincoln Terrace, Alfred Street, Nottingham

Military History

Private Ernest Charles Truelove enlisted at Nottingham, he was killed in action on 16th September 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
