Family History

Frederick Johns was born in 1897 at Hucknall and was the only son of Henry a beer off and grocery worker and Emmaline Johns née White of 42 Annesley Road and later 58 Sandy Lane Hucknall Torkard, Nottinghamshire. His father Henry was born in 1863 in Whitwick, Leicestershire and his mother Emmaline White was born in 1867 in Hucknall, they were married in 1891, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District. In the 1911 census the family are living at 42 Annesley Road, Hucknall and are shown as Henry 48 yrs a beer off and grocery worker, he is living with is wife Emmaline 44 yrs and their son Frederick 14 yrs no occupation listed.

Military History

Rifleman Frederick Johns, enlisted at Hucknall and served with the 10th Battalion Rifle Brigade. He landed in France on 22nd July 1915 and was killed in action on 18th September 1916. Having no known grave his name is commemorate on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
