Family History

He was born about 1896 the son of William and Caroline Houldsworth who in 1911 completed the census with the information that they had been married for 34 years and had had eight children born alive of whom six were still living; from the names on three consecutive census these would have been Percy, Frances, Sylvester, Robert, William and Samuel. In 1891 they were living at 67 Watnall Road, Hucknall, with their five children: Percy WS (13), Frances Grace (10), Sylvester F (8), Ralph A (5) and William Norbury (2). By 1901 they were living at 124 Portland Road, Hucknall; Percy was not in the household but there were still five other children at home: Frances, Sylvester, Robert A (15), William and Samuel Howitt (5). (It is likely that his brother, Robert A (15), is one and the same as Ralph A (5) who is listed in the 1891 census.) The family was still living at the same address ten years later at the time of the 1911 census but Caroline was now a widow and head of household. Four children were still living at home: Frances, Robert, William and Samuel. Also in the household was Caroline's niece, Maud Mary Harkey (30).
