Family History

Everett Arthur was born in 1889 in Nottingham and was the son of Everett a builders labourer and Ellen Gale née Hooten, of 53 Fyne Street Beck Street Nottingham. His father Everett senior was born in Nottingham in 1850 and his mother Ellen Hooten was born in 1852 also in Nottingham. They were married in Nottingham in 1870 and went to have four children one of which sadly died in infancy. Their surviving children were all born in Nottingham and were Amelia Ann b1873, Florence Mary b1881, Harry b1886 and Everett Arthur b 1887. His eldest sister Amelia Ann died in Nottingham in 1898 , In the 1911 census the family are living at 53 Fyne Street, Beck Street, Nottingham and are shown as Everett 61 yrs head of the family a bricklayers labourer he is living with his wife Ellen 59 yrs a lace dresser and their two sons Harry 25 yrs a grocers porter and Everett Arthur 22 yrs , single in the army. His mother Ellen died aged 60 yrs in Nottingham in October 1911. Everett is married in 1914 in Nottingham to his wife Mary Ellanor

Military History

Everett Arthur Gale was a professional soldier and had joined the army prior to the outbreak of the Great War, in the 1911 census he is at home but shown as being in the army. He served with the 2nd battalion the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. With his battalion he landed in East Africa on 16th October 1914. With his battalion he fought in Africa until 1916 when they were transferred to the Suez Canal and Egypt. After the end of the war he was in Italy when he died of pneumonia at 79 General Hospital, Taranto, Italy, and is buried in Taranto Town Cemetery Extension.
