Military History

The Germans launched Operation Michael on 21/03/1918, aiming to smash through the British armies using artillery and men brought in from Russia. The 2/7th Sherwood Foresters held on for most of the morning but their flanks were turned and by noon the battalion had ceased to exist. Pte. Carter was killed in action that day.
