Family History

Albert Harrison was born in 1896 at Normanton and was the son of John Holt Harrison a waggoner on a farm and Mary Clarke Harrison née Renshaw of Shortwood Farm, Hucknall. His father John Holt was born in 1871 at Holme, Lincolnshire and his mother Mary Clarke Renshaw was born in 1875 at Osington, they were married in 1896 their marriage was recorded in the East Retford registration district, they went on to have the following children, Albert b1896 Normanton, Evelyn b1897 Cromwell, Harry b 1900 Warsop, William b1905 Kneeton and Cyril b1909 Kneeton. In the 1911 census the family are living at Kneeton village and are shown as John Holt Harrison 40 yrs a waggoner on a farm, he is living with his wife Mary 38 yrs and their children, Albert 15 yrs a farm labourer, Evelyn 14 yrs a farm labourer, Harry 11 yrs a scholar and Cyril 2 years of age. By 1918 the family have moved to Shortwood Farm at Hucknall.

Military History

Private Albert Harrison enlisted at Hucknall whilst residing at Hucknall, he initially served with the service number 49515 in the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment). He was killed in action on 3rd May 1917 whilst serving with the 13th battalion The King's (Liverpool Regiment) having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
