Family History

He was the son of J H and E Vann of Ella Road West Brodgford Nottingham. He was the husband of Caroline Ellen Vann and the father of Henry James, Caroline and Constance Annie Vann. In 1911 they lived at 35 Robin Hood Street and later at 83 Blue Bell Hill (both St Ann's Nottingham).

Military History

Sgt. Vann served with 4th Reserve Bde., Royal Field Artillery, but was transferred to (570328) 93rd Prisoners of War Coy Labour Corps, No. 570328. After the end of hostilities the Labour Corps prisoners were used to help clear the battlefields and also clear ordnance and mines. He died at Calais suffering from influenza, part of the pandemic sweeping through the armies at that time. (Evening Post 12/02/1919) He was buried at Les Baraques Military Cemetery Sangatte (VIII. C. 3A.)
