Joseph Moult Fearn was born in 1888 at Swannington, Leicestershire and was the son of Henry a coal miner hewer and Sarah Ann Fearn née Moult of Ashby del la Zouch.His father Henry was born in 1862 at Coleorton, Leicestershire, his mother Sarah Ann Moult was also born in 1862 at Coleorton, they were married in 1882 their marriage was recorded in the Ashby del la Zouch registration district, they went on to have the following children, Fred b1883 Swannington, John Henry b1886 Hucknall, Hannah b1887 Hucknall, Joseph Moult b1888 Swannington, Sarah b1894 Gesmore, Leicestershire, Elsie b1897 Gelsmore and Marie b1900 Gelsmore. Joseph Moult married Elsie May Hamilton (born 8th October 1892) in 1912, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they lived at 9 Raymans Yard, Orchard Street, Hucknall, his widow was awarded a pension of 10 shillings a week commencing 19th March 1917

Military History

Private Joseph Moult Fearn enlisted at Hucknall and served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 20th July 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
