John George Edwards was born in 1896 at Hucknall and was the son of Albert a coal miner stallman and Bertha May Edwards née Taylor of 3 Quarry Street, Hucknall. His father Albert was born in 1865 at Luton, his mother Bertha May Taylor was born in 1875 at Hucknall, they were married in 1894 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have the following children, John George b1896, William Albert b1900, Percy b1902, Irene Ivy b1904, Harold b1906 and Eric Edwards b1908 all were born in Hucknall. In the 1911 census the family are living at 3 Quarry Street Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire and are shown as Albert 46 yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Betha May 36 yrs and their children, John George 15 yrs a coal miner pony driver, William Albert 11 yrs a scholar, Percy 9 yrs a scholar, Irene Ivy 7 yrs, Harold 5 yrs and Eric 3 yrs of age.
