He was the son of William and Ann Raven. He was the brother of Hannah Rebecca, Florence Gertrude, Ethel Beatrice and Henry Albert Raven. In 1911 they lived at 7 Raglan Street St Ann's Nottingham. He was the husband of Mary Elizabeth (née Schuster) Raven of 41 Lewis Street Alfred Street St Ann's Nottingham. He was the father of Annie Raven.
