Samuel Sharpe (junior) was born on 4th September 1879 at Ruddington, he was the son of Samuel Sharpe (senior) a frame work knitter and the late Mary Sharpe née Widdowson of Church Street, Ruddington. Samuel Sharpe (senior) was born in 1839, Mary Widdowson was born in 1836 she died in 1909 aged 53 yrs, both were born in Ruddington, they were married in 1862 at Ruddington, they had 5 children. Samuel Sharpe (junior) married Bertha Brooks (born 1881) in 1904 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they lived at The Green, Ruddington, they had the following children, Mildred b1905, Myddleton b1907, Albert William b 1908, Winifred Alice b1911and Rhoda b1913. In the 1911 census his widowed father Samuel (senior) was living on Church Street, Ruddington, Samuel is 72 yrs and a widow, he is living with 4 of his children. In the same 1911 census Samuel Sharpe (junior) is living at Distillery Street, Ruddington, he is 32 yrs and a grounds man, he is living with his wife Bertha 29 yrs and 4 of their children.

Military History

Private Samuel Sharpe enlisted and served with the 1st battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he died on 23rd March 1919 and is buried at Calcutta (Bhowanipore) Cemetery Kolkata Grave Reference: H 326
